826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.

With this in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.

All of our programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student’s power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

Our Location:
1331 North Milwaukee Ave.
Chicago, IL 60622

WISH LIST

826CHI has a particular need for computers—new or refurbished iMacs, Power Macs and flat screen monitors—for our writing lab. Anything you might have sitting around, fully-functional yet seldom-used, will be welcomed. Because we will be networking and using up-to-date software, we prefer Macintosh computers that are running OSX.

Other needs, for 826CHI's lab:
  • Gift cards to Jewel, Staples, or Costco
  • Gift Certificates to local restaurants/shops to give as appreciation gifts
  • Plain white paper for printers and copiers
  • Brightly colored copy paper
  • Healthy snacks for our drop-in students (granola bars etc.)
  • Polaroid film
  • Children’s Rhyming Dictionaries
  • Current Almanacs and atlases
  • Calculators
  • Subscriptions to educational children’s magazines
  • Butcher paper
  • Any office supplies (such as paper, scissors, staplers, etc.)
